INDECOM confirms slain policeman was a robber
Following a high-level probe into the shooting death of a 25-year-old police constable in Hopewell, Hanover, the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has now concluded that the deceased is in fact a robber.
Constable K’mar Beckford Background is said to have attempted to rob a bar in the parish, committing an aggravated robbery at Lorna’s Bar and Grill in Hopewell, Hanover on April 4, 2015. At that time, Beckford was challenged by patron and police officer Inspector Wayne Jacobs during a brief gun battle, leaving Beckford dead.
The Commission also recommended that no criminal charges should be laid against Inspector Jacobs, not should any disciplinary action should be taken, and the matter should be referred to the Coroner’s Court to determine whether further investigation is required.
