Portia Simpson Miller Condemns Murder of Missionaries in St. Mary

May 02, 2016

In a release sent to the media, opposition leader Portia Simpson Miller is lamenting the continuing wave of murders across Jamaica and has condemned the recent killing of two missionaries in St. Mary.

“The brutal and senseless murder of the missionaries follows several horrifying attacks on members of the Police Force in recent days and a continuation of the killing of other Jamaicans. I encourage residents of the communities where the missionaries vacationed and did exemplary charity work to assist the Police with any information that can lead to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for this heinous crime,” the Leader of the Opposition urged.

She also called for the creation of a more sustainable partnership between communities and the security forces to root out criminal activities and particularly to solve the spate of murders.

“Partnerships between communities and the security forces have in the past proved to be effective in reducing criminal activities as seen in the reduction of some categories of crime in recent years through efforts such as Unite for Change initiative,” she noted.
