After undergoing emergency operation at the Spanish Town Hospital, a crime fighter remains hospitalised after he was attacked and shot minutes to 4 a.m. yesterday.

The corporal, who works at the Guys Hill Police Station in St Catherine, was shot and injured during a robbery attempt along St Johns Road in Spanish Town.

"It is sad as it was Wednesday we were at court in Linstead and he was very joyous, and look what happen now. I hope he pulls through," a female colleague said.

Reports are that the corporal had stopped after his Toyota Mark 11 developed mechanical problems. He was reportedly approached by a man who identified himself as a policeman.

Upon requesting identification, the man pulled a gun and shot the corporal in the face, back and leg. The injured policeman reportedly returned fire and may have hit the culprit who escaped.

The injured policeman was rushed to hospital and admitted in serious condition. Up to press time last night, the police were yet to identify or find the attacker.
