Man injured during shoot-out with police

The Independent Commission of Investigations has launched a probe into the shooting of a man by the police in Central Village, St Catherine, yesterday.

At about 8:45 a.m. a police party went on an operation in an area of Central Village, commonly called 'Zambia'. Upon arrival in the area, the police were greeted with gunfire.

According to police reports, there was a robbery in Westmeade, Portmore, St Catherine, and the alleged victim took the police to another area of Portmore and eventually to Central Village where the shoot-out ensued.

During the gun battle Barrington Campbell of Zambia in Central Village was shot and injured by the police. He was subsequently taken to the Spanish Town Hospital for treatment.

Police sources said that an illegal gun was seized during in the incident.
