Senator Ruel Reid, minister of education, youth and Information, will discuss the new tuition fee policy with high school board chairs, principals, and bursars from across the island at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston today.

The education minister and his team are expected to present the details of the new policy at the meeting.

Reid is also slated to address issues raised by school administrators and arrive at a plan to implement the new fee regime for the next school year.

The Government has announced the removal of auxiliary fees in high schools effective at the start of the next academic year.

However, the parliamentary opposition has said that the plan is not workable.

Michael Stewart, the deputy opposition spokesman on education, said that while removing auxiliary fees would help to remove some of the financial burden on parents, such a move would negatively impact schools that rely on auxiliary fees to help fund their operations.
