Tourist sentenced for illegal gun
A female tourist from Georgia in the United States, accused of illegal possession of a firearm at the airport in St James, was sentenced when she appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court recently.
Charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition is 33-year-old Nikki Adams, who pleaded guilty to the offence.
Allegations are that on May 10, Adams arrived at the Sangster International Airport (MJB) in St James, when she was found to be in possession of the firearm and ammunition. She was subsequently arrested and charged.
In court, Adams was ordered to pay a fine of $600,000 or serve 18 months at hard labour for illegal possession of a firearm, and ordered to pay a fine of $500,000 for failure to declare the weapon.
