Road deaths increase
The National Road Safety Council has reported that since the start of the year 146 individuals lost their lives in Jamaica due to road crashes when compared to 138 for the corresponding period last year.
Since 2016, there have been 127 fatal road crashes.
The breakdown of fatalities include 25 pedestrians, 47 motor cyclists, 13 pedal cyclists, two ppv drivers, 19 pmc drivers, three cmc drivers, five pillion passengers, 26 pmc passengers, two cmc passengers and four ppv passengers.
Motorcyclists fatalities (47) account for the largest increase, up by 7, when compared to the same period in 2015 (40).
On the other hand, the data shows a decline in pedestrian fatalities (25) when compared to (36) for the same period in 2015.
