Employees and other people look on at the entrance of Wisynco yesterday as the smoke from the fire blanketed the area.

Up to late last night, the police were unable to say what caused a massive fire which destroyed the Wisynco warehouse in Lakes Pen, St Catherine, yesterday.

The storage facility, which employs several hundred persons, broke out in fire yesterday afternoon resulting in a thick dark smoke covering several nearby communities.

The area where the fire blazed, is said to have stored beverages such as Schweppes, Wata, Cran Wata, Hawaiian Punch, Minute Maid, snacks and distributes Boom Energy Drink and other beverages. Fire fighters and police rushed to the area and the blaze was brought under control later in the evening.

"Boss, a just fire and smoke tek over the place. Right now I am confused about mi work as everything gone in the fire," an employee said.

The St Catherine North police said an investigation has been launched. THE WEEKEND STAR was not informed if the structure or contents were insured.
