Up to press time last night, the east Kingston police said they were yet to make a breakthrough in Friday night's shooting incident that left one security guard dead, and another guard and a female nursing gunshot wounds.

The incident, which occurred at a wholesale on Langston Road in Kingston 3, claimed the life of Richard Fairclough, 43, of Mount Ogle in Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew.

The police's Corporate Communications Unit told THE STAR that at about 7:30 p.m., Fairclough and his partner were securing the premises when gunmen reportedly attacked the facility, opening fire.

The security officers returned fire, causing the armed assailants to flee. The police were alerted, and on their arrival, both security officers, along with a female bystander, were found suffering from gunshot wounds. They were assisted to hospital, where Fairclough was pronounced dead.

The woman and the other officer were admitted at hospital.

Head of the east Kingston police, Senior Superintendent Lennox Harper, told THE STAR that the police are yet to make an arrest in the incident, but investigations are ongoing.

"The officers are interviewing the security company as well as the clients to ascertain the circumstances of the incident. Lack of witnesses is also a factor," Harper said, urging those with information to contact the Elletson Road CIB, which is investigating the matter.
