Fifty-five-year-old Patrick Brown, a vendor from Spanish Town in St Catherine, was shot and killed in Buff Bay, Portland, on Saturday night by unknown assailants.

Reports are that at about 9:40 p.m., Brown and a woman were conducting business at his vehicle, which is used as a makeshift grocery shop, when they were approached by two masked men. The police say shortly after explosions were heard and Brown and the woman were found lying in pools of blood, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

According to the police, the two were rushed to hospital, but Brown was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the woman was admitted in a serious but stable condition.

The incident has since rocked the peaceful eastern parish, which holds the distinction of being the safest islandwide. It is the fourth murder in the parish since the start of 2016.

The police are again appealing to residents to be on the lookout for strange individuals who might be seeking to regroup in the parish as many have become displaced elsewhere as a result of ongoing operations by members of the security forces.

The Portland police are investigating.
