JLP members sent to dispute resolution
Two members of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) who were before the St Catherine Parish Court have decided to resolve their differences through mediation.
They are Hyman Smith, former councillor of the Ginger Ridge division in the St Catherine Parish Council, and Shane Dalling, who is a former councillor for the Westchester division in Portmore.
Smith was taken before the courts to answer to a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
Allegations are that on February 19, Smith and Dalling, who is an attorney-at-law, had a verbal disagreement near Kitson Town, St Catherine. Smith reportedly became aggressive and punched Dalling on his upper body, causing swelling and bruises.
A report was made to the Spanish Town police and an investigation was launched.
The police subsequently summoned Smith to answer to a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
When the matter came up before Parish Judge Tara Reid-Kerr on Tuesday, it was then decided that mediation could resolve the issue. The parties were then advised to visit the Dispute Resolution Foundation.
Smith was bound over to reappear in court on July 26 when the matter will again be mentioned.
