More than $3 million worth of ganja was seized by the police in Russia district, Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, on Saturday. No one has been arrested in connection with the seizure.

The seizure was made by detectives from the Narcotics Division supported by the Area One police

Reports are that about 9:30 p.m., the lawmen conducted an operation in the community where they found 21 knitted plastic bags containing several parcels of compressed ganja. The drug, which weighed approximately 806 pounds, has an estimated street value of $3.2 million.

"We are of the view that this drug was intended for Haiti in support of the illegal drugs-for-guns trade operations between smugglers from the two nations," commanding officer for the Narcotics Division, Senior Superintendent McArthur Sutherland, said. "We pledge to continue our operations to prevent ganja from leaving our shores to fuel this illicit trade and thereby further disrupt the activities of major drug trafficking syndicates."
