July 15, 2016

The Tivoli Gardens police station was fired upon this morning by gunmen.

This after a Tivoli resident, 19-year-old Tevin Gordon was shot dead allegedly by the police in Building 12.

Reports are that, the attack on the police went on for more than 45 minutes.

Residents of Tivoli Gardens as well as West Kingston Member of Parliament, Desmond McKenzie, have accused the police of acting unlawfully.

They claim that the police opened fire on residents indiscriminately.

According to Mr. McKenzie, he too had to take cover due to the heavy gunfire allegedly from the police.

He says he strongly condemns the action of the police.

The residents expressed anger at the shooting death of Gordon, who they claimed was killed in his house in cold blood.

The man’s aunt told The Gleaner-Power 106 News Centre that she and other occupants where home when minutes to 8 o’ clock they were awoken by voices at the door claiming to be police personnel.

She says when she opened the door several police personnel entered the house and went into a room where her nephew was.

According to her, her nephew was shot and killed by the police.

The MP is calling for the police commissioner to conduct a full investigation into the incident.
