Tense calm in Tivoli after shooting
The Inspectorate of Constabulary has launched a probe into the fatal shooting of a man and the recovery of a firearm in Tivoli Gardens, Kingston yesterday.
Police on duty at the Tivoli Police Post came under attack where the entrance and the rear to the Tivoli Gardens Police Post were damaged by gunshots following the shooting of the teen. He is Kevin Gordon, 19, of a Tivoli Gardens address.
Superintendent Howard Chambers, commander for the Western Kingston police division, told THE STAR that the roadblocks mounted by residents have been cleared.
"The area is still very tense, however, a tense calm exist where people are up and moving about their normal business. The corridors are cleared and also vehicles are moving about freely," he said.
Reports are that about 7:30 a.m., an operation was being carried out in an area of the community known as 'Bumps' when the Police accosted a group of men. The men reportedly ran in different directions.
One of the men entered into a building, during a confrontation with the Police he was shot and injured.
The police one Lorcin semi-automatic pistol with eight 9mm rounds of ammunition was taken from him. He was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
However, Gordon's house said she was in the house in which he was killed and was asked to leave by police who said they were conducting a search.
"Dem kill me nephew fi no reason at all. Dm nuh find nuttin inside her but likkle ganja," the aunt said.
