Team Oliver wins JPS energy challenge
Season Two of the JPS PowerSmart Energy Challenge ended on a high note recently with the announcement of the new victors, Team Oliver.
The reality show featured four households from across the island competing as teams. They were Team Rigg from Linstead, Team Stewart from Spanish Town. Team Bourne represented the parish of Clarendon, and Team Oliver was from the garden parish of St Ann.
The seven exciting episodes showcased the families' best efforts to outdo each other in energy conservation and efficiency practices, as well as challenges that were fun and educational.
Team Oliver won the competition after a dramatic reduction in consumption of 72 per cent, as well as winning several of the challenges. Team Rigg, which copped third place overall, had the highest reduction in energy consumption - an impressive 82 per cent.
For their efforts, Team Oliver will enjoy $500,000 cash, a round trip to any Fly Jamaica destination, a $200,000 shopping spree at Hi-Lo Food Stores, an all-inclusive vacation at the exclusive Royalton White Sands Resort, and electricity vouchers, among other prizes accumulated throughout the competition. The second-third-, and fourth-place winners received $100,000, $75,000, and $50,000 cash, respectively along with $20,000 in electricity vouchers and the prizes they won throughout the competition.
Each team benefited from the expertise of a JPS energy mentor, who guided them through their challenges and the best options for lowering their light bills.
JPS Head of Marketing, Tishan Lee, said: "When our customers are armed with the right tools and information, significant energy savings are only a light bill away. That's what the Energy Challenge effectively demonstrated."
Her observation was endorsed by the Challengers - all have seen significant reduction over the competition period and have opted to keep the Pay As You Go pre-paid meter that was installed for the competition.
