Four illegal guns seized in Hellshire
Since Monday, the police in St Andrew and St Catherine have seized four illegal firearms and several rounds of ammunition in three separate incidents.
A total of three men have been held in connection with the seizures, while a fourth man is being treated at hospital.
Reports from the police’s Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) are that on Monday about 11:30 a.m., police officers carried out an operation on Marl Road, Seven Miles in St. Andrew where they searched a premises and one 9mm pistol, seven rounds of ammunition along with a magazine were seized.
The police took two men into custody in relation to the gun find. The police were then lead to a house belonging to one of the detainees, in Central Village, St. Catherine where they found another firearm and 57 rounds of ammunition.
Later that day, during a routine patrol in Beacon Hill, St Catherine, the police report that about 3:40 p.m., they came under gunfire by a man identified as Mario Rose, otherwise called ‘Bean’ or ‘Peas’. They returned fire, and Rose was injured. The police found a Colt .45 pistol and two rounds of ammunition on him. He is still in hospital.
A similar operation was carried out the following day, Tuesday, in Hellshire, St Catherine at about 1:45 a.m. where police searched a young man and found a 9mm Glock pistol, with a magazine containing seventeen rounds of ammunition. He is 23-year-old Sheldon Samuels, otherwise called ‘Max’. He was charged with Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition and is to appear in court.
Investigations by the relevant authorities are being carried out into each of the incidents.
