July 20, 2016

Two men, who are said to have engaged the police in a shoot-out along the Spanish Town Bypass, St Catherine, yesterday morning, were fatally shot and an illegal gun seized.

One of those killed was identified as Sheldon Gayle, 21, from Ellerslie Pen in Spanish Town.

Reports are that sometime after 6 a.m., a police party was on patrol near the Spanish Town Examination Depot when Gayle and another unidentified man were seen and their behaviour arose suspicion.

It is reported that they were accosted, but started to shoot at the police. During the ensuing gun battle both men were hit and an illegal gun seized from them.

It was revealed that the area in which the incident occurred is often frequented by robbers.

The Independent Commission of Investigation have since launched a probe in the matter.
