Five held in firearms, ammo seizures

Police managed to seize two firearms and 12 rounds of ammunition in two parishes, St Catherine and Trelawny within hours apart yesterday.

The first seizure took place about 11 a.m. when the Bog Walk police went to the West Prospect community where a man was seen and searched. One .40 Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with a magazine containing six .40 rounds of ammunition was taken from his person.

He was taken into custody, however, his identity his being withheld pending further investigations.

Four hours later officers attached to the Rio Bueno police were on a vehicular checkpoint operation along the Braco main road, Trelawny when the driver of a Toyota Fielder motorcar was signalled to stopped.

The vehicle and its four occupants, which included a female, were searched and a bag carried by the female was found to contain one 9mm Luger pistol with a magazine containing six 9mm rounds.

All four occupants were taken into custody; however, their identities are being withheld pending further investigations. Investigations continue.
