Policeman on kidnapping charge remanded

The Manchester police constable arrested recently for criminal offences committed against his former lover was officially charged yesterday and then immediately dragged before the St Andrew Parish Court to answer to the charges.

He was remanded in custody until Monday August 15.

The constable, who has been identified as 25-year-old Andre Dwayne Clarke of the Mandeville Police Station, has been charged with kidnapping, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and unlawful wounding.

Reports are that Clarke kidnapped his female companion and kept her at his home for several days where he physically assaulted her repeatedly.

It is expected that a bail application will be made at his next court appearance.
