Taxi driver shot on UWI campus
A taxi driver was rushed to hospital after he was shot on the University of the West Indies, Mona campus allegedly by a passenger who boarded his cab, THE STAR understands.
Information reaching our news desk is that two men allegedly boarded the taxi, which plies between Half way tree and Papine, along Hope Road near Jamaica College and ordered the driver to take them to August Town.
Our news team gathered that the taxi driver, on reaching Irvin Hall gate, diverted to the UWI, driving through the exit barrier and entering the campus.
He was then shot multiple times. The men escaped on foot.
When our news team contacted the Mona police, a senior officer told THE STAR that there was a shooting incident on the campus, however he could not provide any further details at the time.
Up to press time last night, the area was cordoned off as scene of crime detectives carried out their investigation.
