Drones to be used to tackle praedial larceny, increase agricultural production
The Government is looking to increase production in the agricultural sector with the use of drones.
“I think the drone is going to make a big difference as far as us moving forward in agriculture,” said Hon J.C. Hutchinson, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, as he spoke to farmers at a demonstration of the use of drone technology in Lowe River, Trelawny, on Tuesday.
Hutchinson said the drones will help to give a more accurate estimate of crop damage in the event of a disaster, better estimates as far as crop production is concerned and identification of areas which might be lacking water and even plants that may be lacking in nutrients.
He also noted that the drones will even help to find lost animals, a step that will go far in assisting farmers to tackle praedial larceny.
