Cop killed while doing spot check

August 20, 2016

A police inspector was mowed down by a hit-and-run driver outside the Clarke's Town Police Station in Trelawny yesterday. Inspector Mark Gibbs, who had over 30 years of service in the police force, was conducting a spot check when he signalled to the driver of a burgundy motor car to stop.

The driver disobeyed the order, hitting the policeman out the road. The incident occurred at about 5 p.m. this afternoon.

"Inspector Gibbs was everybody's friend, he made everybody laugh. We are torn. This one is very painful," said a number of his colleagues.
