Jermaine Barnaby Police and residents look at the baby's body yesterday

The mutilated body of a naked baby was fished from a gully in Portmore, St Catherine yesterday. Residents reportedly stumbled upon the new-born's body about 7 a.m. in a gully in Newlands.

The Corporate Communications Unit said residents were walking along the gully side when they saw the body and called the Bridgeport police. On arrival, the police observed the infant lying on its back naked, with what appeared to be several bite marks from dogs. The scene was processed, and the body removed to the morgue.

Up to press time last night, the police were yet to make a breakthrough in the matter.

Yesterday's incident comes just a little over two weeks after a day-old baby was abandoned in a show box at the Chapelton Hospital in Clarendon. The 16-year-old mother was later detained.
