Prison inmate dies after jumping from building
A 50 year old man who was serving a two-year prison term at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston has reportedly committed suicide.
The ministry of national security said that the man, whose name has not been released, jumped from the second floor of the hospital section at Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre on Monday afternoon.
He was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The inmate, who was imprisoned for wounding, is said to have recently developed mental issues. However, the Department of Correctional Services said that he did not exhibit suicidal tendencies.
The matter was reported to the Denham Town Police Station, and is being investigated by the Ministry of National Security Inspectorate Unit.
