American women arrested at airport for cocaine

August 26, 2016

Two American women were taken into custody following the seizure of over six pounds of cocaine at the Norman Manley International Airport on Tuesday.

They are 30-year-old Lezonn Garvins and 28-year-old Damary Smoot both of an Ohio, United States of America, address. Both American citizens were arrested and charged for possession of, dealing in and attempting to export cocaine.

Reports are that about 12:30 p.m., Garvins and Smoot checked in to board an outgoing flight destined to Florida. Upon reaching the preboard screening area, both were interviewed and searched by the police, when it was discovered that they had handbags with false compartments in both sides containing cocaine totalling six and a half pounds.

Garvins and Smoot are both scheduled to appear in the Montego Bay Parish Court on August 31.

Investigations continue.
