Losing MP to run for parish council seat

August 26, 2016

After losing his parliamentary seat in the 2016 general election, Richard Parchment is seeking to head back to the St Elizabeth Parish Council as a councillor.

This time, however, he is not running in PNP-strong Mysersville, which he served as councillor for one term from 2007 to 2011.

Parchment has moved further up the road to the marginal division of Malvern, which is currently represented by former West Indies pacer Daren Powell.

"He still has an interest in the constituency and, politicall, it is better for him to stay in there and work," Mikael Phillips, the chairman for the PNP in that region, told THE WEEKEND STAR.

"There was a vacancy in that division and he applied and was accepted," said Phillips, who added that Powell had indicated he would not be seeking re-election.

Parchment's South East St Elizabeth, which was once a safe PNP seat, was one of 11 lost by the party in the last general election.
