An operation by the Narcotics Division in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, on Tuesday resulted in the seizure of a sub-machine gun and the arrest of two men for suspected breaches of the Firearm Act.

Reports are that about 4 p.m., the team was conducting an operation along the Whitehouse main road when a Toyota Hiace bus was stopped, searched and a TEC-9 sub-machine gun and four 9mm cartridges were found in the vehicle. It was subsequently seized and the occupants - two Westmoreland residents - were arrested.

They are to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys later this week, after which it is expected that formal charges will be laid.
