Tropical wave expected to bring heavy showers by tomorrow

Perhaps a signal that Jamaica was about to experience tropical storm conditions in August, gusty winds came in from the nearby sea and the heavens opened up, forcing motorists to proceed with caution.

With a strong tropical wave currently over the Central Caribbean, the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) says the public should expect heavy showers by tomorrow.

According to the ODPEM, it has received reports from the Meteorological Service that the tropical wave currently over the Central Caribbean. The forecast is for heavy showers and thunderstorms starting in the eastern parishes by tomorrow, and then spreading across most parishes through Thursday morning.

The ODPEM added that the relevant agencies, parish disaster committees and emergency managers/responders have been alerted.

The public is also being encouraged to monitor the radio for further advisories and to avoid areas that are at risk from flooding and landslides.
