Fire at substation results in power outage in St Elizabeth
A few weeks ago there was an all island power blackout, and now more than 27,000 Jamaica Public Service (JPS) customers will be without electricity following a fire at the Maggotty Substation in St Elizabeth.
According to JPS, a person of unsound mind entered the substation property, causing damage to the location and himself, as well as a fire at the property.
The man has since been taken to hospital for treatment.
The affected communities are Ballards Valley, Big Woods, Black River, Burnt Savannah, Junction, Hopewell, Holland, Ipswich, Lacovia, Malvern, Middle Quarters, New Market, Southfield, Treasure Beach, Maggotty and surrounding areas.
