Sexual offences flood St Catherine Circuit Court

Some 170 sexual offences cases are to be tried in this session of the St Catherine Circuit Court.

The cases include rape, buggery, incest and having sex with a person under the age of 16 years old.

 Justice Vinette Graham-Allen will preside over the Michaelmas Session of the St Catherine Circuit which opened in Emancipation Square, Spanish Town on September 16.

The Term is scheduled to run from September 16, 2016 to December 20, 2016.

Meanwhile, Justice Zaila McCalla  has said that the members of the judiciary are committed to a “reliable, transparent, fair and just justice system”.

The Chief Justice was speaking at the Opening of the Michaelmas Session of the Home Circuit Court. 

Chief Justice McCalla used the opening sitting to urge members of the Public, as well as the Private Bar, to use the new initiatives and amendments to laws that have been enacted to “effectively administer justice, to reduce delays in the courts and to improve the overall delivery of justice to litigants”.
