The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information has strongly condemned the fatal shooting of a bus driver, and the serious gun - shot wounds inflicted upon two students.

The shooting incident took place earlier today, during the early morning commute to school, in the vicinity of St. Clavers Avenue and Creek Street in Montego Bay.

There was chaos and panic during peak hour traffic along Creek Street in downtown Montego Bay as shots rained on a bus carrying mainly school children.

At the end of the shooting, the driver was dead and two female students of the Maldon High School injured.

They have since been hospitalised.

In a media release issued today, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information said it is alarmed by this incident.

"Children have to travel to and from school and are exposed to these criminals who continue to prey on civilians and our defenseless students. I would like to remind and encourage parents to ensure that children in their daily commute, travel in groups so that they can see, assist and protect each other," stated education minister Ruel Reid.
