HUGE FINES PROPOSED FOR BREACHING TRAFFIC LAWS

Smoking ganja, while driving or while in charge of a motor vehicle on a road will attract a $10,000 fine.
Persons who use celluphone while driving will be hit with a $30,000 fine if Parliament approves new law.
The police say that this car was racing with another vehicle when the driver lost control, resulting in it crashing.

Legislators are now considering proposals for a new Road Traffic law. A bill, which is currently before parliament, is proposing huge fines for persons who use the road in an unsafe manner.

Here are some of the proposals:

n Smoking ganja, while driving or while in charge of a motor vehicle on a road - $10,000, and in default of payment, 15 days' imprisonment.

n Promoting or taking part in race or trial of speed between vehicles on road - $100,000 and disqualification for holding or obtaining a driver's licence or 12 months or such longer period, and in default of payment, three months' imprisonment.

n Driver of motor vehicle and failing to give hand signal to indicate direction when turning - $5,000 or 15 days' imprisonment.

n Driver of motor vehicle leaving vehicle unattended without stopping the engine - $20,000 or 15 days' imprisonment.

n Person riding on the running board, wings, fenders, or on the outside of a vehicle - $10,000, and in default of payment, 15 days' imprisonment.

n Driving instructor holding or using electronic communication device while instructing person to drive - $30,000, and in default of payment, 30 days' imprisonment.

n Use of electronic video device within driver's line of sight while driving - $30,000, and in default of payment, 30 days' imprisonment.

n Use of electronic communication device while driving - $30,000, and in default of payment, 30 days' imprisonment.

n Forging, altering, using, or allowing to be used by any person any licence or registration plates - $50,000, and in default of payment, 30 days' imprisonment.

n Climbing or swinging upon any motor vehicle without the permission of the owner - $10,000, and in default of payment, 15 days' imprisonment.

n Driving or attempting to drive across a funeral procession - $10,000, and in default of payment, 15 days' imprisonment.

n Throws object at vehicle or places object in road to damage vehicle - $50,000, and in default of payment, 15 days' imprisonment.
