NWA on full alert for Hurricane Matthew
The National Works Agency (NWA) has put its parish and regional teams on full alert in preparation for the likely impact of Hurricane Matthew.
According to Stephen Shaw, the manager of communication and customer services at the NWA, the agency has mapped the island and will be paying special attention to just over 120 locations across the country. These areas, he said, are vulnerable to flooding, landslides and storm surges. Some of the roads in these areas also have major facilities such as the airports, hospitals, power stations and water facilities.
Shaw says the NWA will be placing heavy equipment in strategic locations in order to make its response more efficient.
