Man pleads guilty to throwing lover in canal

November 23, 2016

A St Catherine man, who allegedly beat his former girlfriend before throwing her in a canal, pleaded guilty when he appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court yesterday.

Kajeel Harvey, a 30-year-old taxi driver of Dunbeholden district in St Catherine, is to be sentenced on February 20.

Allegations are that on June 28 the accused lured the complainant to his home.

When he attempted to get her inside the house, it is said that she told him she wanted to leave.

Harvey then became angry and dragged the complainant to the rear of the building where he physically assaulted her.

It is said that he then hauled her to a nearby canal with water which he threw her in, even as the woman begged for mercy.

Luckily, neighbours heard her screams and rescued her from the grasp of Harvey.

The matter was reported to the Portmore police and an investigation launched. However, Harvey managed to elude the police until he was held in early November.
