Five illegal guns seized

December 01, 2016

The police took five illegal guns out of the hands of criminals during an operation in Old Harbour, St Catherine, yesterday.

Reports are that personnel from the Operation Support Team stopped a motor car. A search was conducted of the vehicle and the guns were discovered.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of a toll plaza.

Members of the team have been on high alert due to a spike in crime in the St Catherine South Police Division.

"We are aware that with the festive season upon us, plus there was just an election, criminals will try to carry out criminal acts, which include the movement of guns and ammunition," said Senior Superintendent of Police Robert Bennett.

The type of weapons seized was not made available.
