Since November 19, the nation's food safety authorities failed to address queries regarding the possibility of fake rice being in Jamaica.

THE STAR contacted head of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ), Yvonne Hall, regarding concerns some Jamaicans raised.

Hall's secretary told THE STAR to send an email with the queries.

The email was sent to Hall on November 20, and to date has not been addressed.

Despite those queries, representatives of the BSJ said at yesterday's 'plastic rice' press conference that Sunday night's TVJ report was the first time such concerns have been brought to their attention.

When THE STAR again contacted Hall yesterday to enquire why a probe was not launched last month, she indicated she had stepped out for lunch and would respond later. She is yet to do so.
