Man accused of stabbing friend in back freed
A St Catherine man who was charged for stabbing his friend in the back was freed of wounding charges in the St Catherine Parish Court last Friday following a successful no-case submission by his lawyer.
He is Howard Steele, a 23-year-old labourer of Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine.
Steele's attorney Abe-Don Foote told the court that the Crown could not prove that his client stabbed the complainant. He added that the complainant had previously admitted that he told the police it was 'Jowie' who stabbed him. However, Foote said 'Jowie' is not the same person as his client.
Senior Parish Judge Tara Reid-Carr upheld the submission and freed Steele of unlawful wounding.
Allegations are that about 9 p.m. on February 13, the complainant was walking along Terminal Road in Old Harbour Bay when he was stabbed in his back and chest three times.
He was taken to hospital. Following an investigation, Steele was charged with unlawful wounding.
