Man accused of stealing 30 goats freed

January 13, 2017

A St Catherine man accused of stealing 30 goats was freed in the St Catherine Parish Court on Wednesday after the complainant failed to appear at the start of the cross-examination.

Freed of larceny is Paul Forbes, a labourer of Old Harbour, St Catherine.

When the case was mentioned in the Old Harbour chapter of the St Catherine Parish Court, the complainant was again absent.

Forbes' attorney told the court that it was the fourth occasion that the complainant was absent from the proceedings, and that the matter should be dismissed.

Parish Judge Grace Henry-McKenzie upheld the lawyer's submission and ordered that Forbes should be freed.

Allegations before the court are that in April 2016, the complainant reportedly caught the accused and two other men stealing the goats from his farm near Church Pen.

He sounded an alarm, and Forbes and the men reportedly drove off with the animals.

A report was made to the Old Harbour police. Following an investigation, Forbes was charged.
