Sex offender gets 17 years

A St Catherine man has been sentenced to a total of 17 years imprisonment for carnal abuse and indecent assault on a girl who was nine years old at the time of the incidents.

David Walters, 30, of Ewarton, St Catherine, was sentenced on Friday by High Court judge Carolyn Tie. His co-accused Jodian Lindo was sentenced to three years imprisonment for aiding and abetting carnal abuse and indecent assault.

Walters, who has a previous conviction, was given 14 years for carnal abuse and three years for indecent assault. The sentences will run concurrently, which means Walters will spend 14 years in prison.


Sexual pleasures


Lindo was given three years on carnal abuse and three on aiding and abetting indecent assault. He sentence will also run concurrently.

Walters and Lindo were found guilty on March 29 in the St Catherine Circuit Court. The Crown led evidence that in 2009, the complainant went to visit Lindo who took her to Walters for his sexual pleasures.

A report was made to the Ewarton police and following an investigation both were charged with five counts of carnal abuse and indecent assault.
