Visually impaired student says thanks

April 25, 2017
Marlon Samuels presents a cheque to visually impaired student Garfield Mitchell.

The following is a letter from Garfield Mitchell who benefited from a $350,000 donation from Marlon Samuel's foundation, Sammy Vision. Samuels was moved by Mitchell's story which appeared in THE STAR recently.

I write to express my absolute gratitude to you personally and The STAR in general for the article which featured my story. The article has been a catalyst for some much needed assistance. Since then, I have received funding from two sources which will go towards my tuition for two years and also towards accommodation on campus, both of which have taken an enormous financial burden from my mother.

Secondly, living on campus has eradicated my travelling from St Ann, and is affording me much more time to study.

Once again, many thanks for the assistance which I deem to be an investment in my future.

There is an African saying which goes, "May others repay you". I truly do wish that for you.
