Landslides leave St Thomas roads blocked

May 09, 2017

Persistent overnight rains left two major roadways in St Thomas blocked.

According to the National Works Agency (NWA), the road from Wilmington to Morant Bay is completely blocked at Wilmington, and the corridor from Hordley to Haning is blocked at Rowlandsfield.

Stephen Shaw, communication and customer services manager at the NWA, said the roadways became blocked by landslides and fallen trees. He said work crews have been kept busy over the last two weeks reopening roads affected by landslides due to the ongoing rains that have been affecting particularly southern parishes.
