A lawyer has been slapped with fraud charges after he was accused of uttering forged documents and conspiring to defraud.

The attorney, Herbert Grant, who has been granted bail, is alleged to have forged the signatures on a land document.

The charges stem from allegations surrounding a property purchase which began in 1986. The complainant allegedly contracted the services of Grant when he and his father agreed to purchase a property in Rio Nuevo, St. Mary as tenants in common.

According to the police report, the complainant, in 2016, realised that his name was not on the land title and a made a report the Fraud Squad and the investigation commenced.

"The probe revealed that the signatures of the complainant and the Instruments of Transfer (documents used during the purchase process) were forged," the police report stated.
