PNP councillor shot, secretary killed
A People's National Party (PNP)/councillor was last night shot and injured in daring gun attack at his political office off Spanish Town Road at about 8 p.m
The councillor, Karl Blake, represents Greenwich Town in Member of Parliament Portia Simpson Miller's South West St Andrew.
Senior Superintendent Arthur Brown of the JCF said the shooting took place at Blake's divisional office, 88 - 100 Spanish Town Road. The police had not established a motive for the attack up to late last night,
Maxine Simpson, the divisional secretary was killed in the attack.
Julian Robinson, the general secretary for the PNP, said Blake was shot in the upper body.
"He is talking so his condition would not be considered life-threatening," said Robinson, who was among the throng of PNP officials who turned up at the Kingston Public Hospital in Kingston last night.
Robinson described Simpson as a strong worker and supporter of the party.
"It is a very sad day for the party," said Robinson.
"We condemn this type of violence. We urge the police to do the investigations quickly so we can come to understand the cause," Robinson said.
He said that the shooting came as a "total shock and surprise to everybody", adding that there was not indication that anyone wanted to harm the councillor.
