Mechanic found hanging near seaside

The St Mary police are investigating a case of suspected suicide after the body of a mechanic was found hanging from a tree near the seaside in Port Maria on Thursday.

Dead is 71-year-old Lascelles 'Bowa' Powell, of a Seaview Avenue, Tower Isle address in the parish.

Information reaching THE STAR is that residents of the Tower isle community are now in mourning as Powell was a well-known mechanic in the area.

Our news team understands that the deceased was last seen alive on Wednesday night.

 

Suicide note

 

THE STAR was told that a group of fishermen stumbled on the body and notified Powell's family.

The police were summoned, the scene processed and the body removed to the morgue.

Our news team also gathered that a subsequent search of Powell's home unearthed what is believed to be a suicide note.

An investigating officer confirmed a note was found, however the contents were not disclosed.

A resident told THE STAR, "Everybody know him and him never show sign of stress at all. A long time dem man deh deh bout and it sad fi know a so him gone. This was never expected from Bowa but who knows."
