Murder accused gets trial date
A St Catherine man who allegedly chopped another to death six years ago is to be tried in the St Catherine Parish Court on July 27.
He is Ashford Sutherland of Seafield, Guys Hill district.
When Sutherland appeared before Justice Christine McDonald on Friday, the matter was postponed for further tests to be conducted.
Attorney Ricardo Sandcroft requested that a psychiatric assessment be done on his client to see the way forward.
As a result, Sutherland was ordered remanded until the assessment is conducted.
Allegations are that on January 2011, Sutherland cut a stalk of sugar cane from Allen's field and a dispute developed.
He allegedly later ambushed Allen when he went to collect water in an isolated area during which he chopped him several times.
Allen subsequently succumbed to the injuries.
