Buchanan wants TEF to help develop Seaford Town
Eastern Westmoreland Member of Parliament Luther Buchanan said Seaford Town, in his constituency, has the potential to benefit from tourism.
"Tourism could be a big thing for the community. It has a rich history and a unique culinary offering," Buchanan said.
Located in the hills of Westmoreland, Seaford Town, also called German Town, is about one hour from the Sangster International Airport in St James.
However, despite the proximity, Buchanan said tourists have not been turning up in the community in great numbers because of the infrastructure.
"I believe firmly that an investment programme, through the Tourism Enhancement Fund to fix the roadways and enhance the potable water supply, is the first step that the Government should take to facilitate an entrepreneurial explosion in the area," Buchanan.
Despite its rich history, Seaford Town is without a museum, and a community tour which was a key feature of the German community has faded into the background.
