Oil spill to be cleaned up by Friday
The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is satisfied with the clean-up efforts undertaken by Petrojam thus far, following last week's oil spill at the facility.
Most of the oil has been removed from the sea and shoreline. Petrojam has assured that the clean-up will be completed by Friday.
The oil spill was discovered last Wednesday during a routine inspection. Fisherfolk at the Greenwich Town fishers' village said the oil spill has resulted in damage to their equipment.
Petrojam has said it deeply regrets this incident and the company is making every effort to protect the health and safety of the public and preserve the environment.
A team from NEPA assessed the situation and collaborated with the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard and other entities to carry out the clean-up process.
