Farmer's throat slashed, house set on fire
Investigators in St Ann have launched a probe into the gruesome death of an elderly man whose throat was slashed and his house set ablaze in Madras in the parish.
The dead man has since been identified as 62-year-old Willie Sawyers, a farmer of the quiet district.
Reports reaching THE STAR is that at about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, residents saw fire coming from Sawyers' house.
Our news team gathered that the fire could not be contained and the home was destroyed.
During subsequent checks around the home on Monday, Sawyers was found under a tree with several stab wounds and his throat slashed.
His death, brings to 37, the number of persons brutally killed in St Ann since the start of the year.
THE STAR understands that Sawyers lived alone, and the community is in shock at this murder.
No motive has been established for the killing.
Efforts by THE STAR to get an update from head of the St Ann police, Superintendent Gary Francis, proved futile.
Investigations are ongoing.
