Gunmen shoot up party - Cop foils possible bloodbath
Quick action by a policeman thwarted what could have been a gruesome scene along East Street in Kingston after gunmen opened fire on a group of people last night, injuring one.
Information reaching THE STAR is that the injured man was rushed to The Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) after he was shot in his leg.
Reports are that about 8:55 p.m., a group of men brandished guns and opened fire on a group of people on John's Lane.
THE STAR gathered that a plain clothes policeman, who was nearby, heard the explosions and challenged the gunmen who continued firing.
More than a dozen shots were fired during the exchange, which sent passersby scampering for cover. The men escaped in the area.
The residents showered praises on the policeman for his bravery, citing that if he was not there to challenge the attackers, lives would have been lost.
Within minutes of the shooting, police personnel converged on the area, and investigators cordoned off a section of East Street.
The Kingston Central police are investigating.
