Security forces still expect arrests in ZOSO
Despite no illegal firearms being recovered so far and only one wanted person being taken into custody since the Zone of Special Operations in Mount Salem, St James, was introduced last Friday, Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay believes positive strides are being made.
"There are no great numbers in terms of statistics, in terms of arrests ... but also at the same time there are qualitative assessments that you can make," Lindsay told THE STAR.
She said that, although it is early days, already the presence of the combined forces have led to the reduction of the fear of crime by residents.
"In time, we expect to have greater results in terms of the tangibles. We expect to have some seizure of firearms. We have to expect to have some arrest of some wanted persons, but we also expect to see the social intervention programmes kicking in soon," she said.
